we helped Jane to get back on track in six months with not signs of mental health problems

How we helped Jane get her life back on track

When we were first introduced to Jane she was really struggling with her mental health. In just six months we helped her take back control of her life – empowering and enabling her to make her future her own again.

Jane*, who is in her late thirties is married with two young children. She’s always felt like the odd one out, found it difficult managing her feelings and struggled maintaining relationships. After the birth of her youngest child, Jane felt increasingly low in mood and alone – and this got even worse after her father passed away.

Jane’s relationship with her family suffered. She lost confidence in her parenting skills and worried that her marriage might not survive. Jane’s job also became more stressful and she ended up resigning. On the anniversary of her father’s death, Jane was so overwhelmed that she ended up on the bridge where her father used to take her – with the intention to take her own life.

JANE’S RELATIONSHIP WITH HER FAMILY SUFFERED. SHE LOST CONFIDENCE IN HER PARENTING SKILLS AND WORRIED THAT HER MARRIAGE MIGHT NOT SURVIVE.

We started to directly support Jane and her family at home on a daily basis. Jane soon realised that she wasn’t alone and for the first time what she was experiencing was not normal. With our support she was able to identify triggers and start looking at ways to manage her emotions more effectively. One-toone reflective work, keeping a diary and listing positive coping strategies really helped.

Over time we were able to reduce Jane’s support and introduce Jane to local NHS community services through her GP, so she could access targeted therapy programmes that would help her to deal with her childhood trauma and Nurseline Community Services is part of the Catalyst Care Group – comprehensive services provided by trusted experts, with one purpose – to transform care for the better. www.nurselinecs.co.uk bereavement. With our feedback and support Jane was also put on the correct medication.

We followed up with Jane a month later after she was discharged and she was feeling much more positive. Her relationship with her husband had improved and she is building back her confidence as a parent. Jane feels we have been instrumental in helping her through her recovery. Three months on, Jane has been diagnosed with bi-polar effective disorder which has helped her understand herself better – meaning she’ll get the correct treatment. She’s now ready to restart her career.

Jane’s mother says “You’ve given my daughter back and you’ve made such a positive impact on the whole family.”
